1. Overview
Metal oxide arresters are international high-tech products in the 1990s. They use oxygen zinc resistors with excellent nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics, so the protection characteristics of the arrester under the slope, lightning wave, and operating wave are greatly improved compared to traditional silicon carbide arresters. In particular, zinc oxide resistors have good slope response characteristics, no delay for steep slope voltage, low operating residual voltage, and no discharge dispersion. Thus, the inherent shortcomings of silicon carbide arresters, such as high steep slope discharge voltage caused by steep slope discharge delay, high operating wave discharge voltage caused by large operating wave discharge dispersion, are overcome, and the protection margin under steep slope and operating wave is greatly improved. In addition, in terms of insulation coordination, the protection margin of steep slope, lightning wave, and operating wave can be close to the same, thereby providing the best protection for power equipment and improving the reliability of protection. Zinc oxide arresters also have the ability to absorb lightning overvoltage, operating overvoltage, and power frequency transient overvoltage.
